OMG, he gave himself up for them. Mamoru. Sacrificed himself for the Shitennou. I was on the edge of my seat chanting pleasepleaseplease and he did and it's just. Even though his memory is piecemeal, even though half of them can't remember him, even though their his enemies and As tattered and frayed and one sided as they are, his bonds to them are strong enough that he would willingly walk into Beryl's arms for them! The threat to their lives was enough to make himself surrender and Beryl knew that! Just assumed that if Mamoru was beginning to regain his memories of course he'd be willing to sacrfice himself to save them. As if it was obvious. As if, after thousands and thousands of years and forgetfulness and betrayl, it was still just that obvious.

And Mamoru never hesitates. Not even when Zoisite pleas with him to stop, or Kunzite tries to kill him. But it's Jadeite and Nehprite and their bewildered incomprehension that he's saving them that brings a lump to my throat. They're the ones messed around by Beryl the most, and here's a Lord you could be proud to serve, who would respect you and be your friend as well as your Lord, and you don't even know it! The way that Beryl sets up her hostages just chills me; no other way could have demonstrated the abjectness of their enslavement so completly. Dammit, is this the same show that makes me giggle over the transformation sequences and the latex monsters?

And the parralel of Usagi with her Senshi and friends around her, all ready and willing to die defending her, with Mamoru and his enslaved, broken Shitennou... I love Usagi and her Senshi. Their so bright and beautiful, and so strong in thier love and faith in each other, despite the troubles they may have. But perhaps it's because I know they'll always be together, always have that friendship, that it's Mamoru and his Shitennou who are so broken and fractured and divided, who are all so alone when they once meant so much to each other, and who may never be able to regain what they lost...

I want them to have a happy ending. I've never seen the original series, just a few scattered eps, but I've picked up the major events through fandom osmosis so I know they don't get a happy ending there, and I really should just resign myself to it. But I've also picked up enough to know that the Live Action has already changed a lot of things - Minako and Makoto's characters are especially, I believe, different. And so there's this niggling little hope that I can't suppress, that just makes it all the more painful to watch. Why can't they change that ending as well?

I just want Usagi and her Senshi and Mamoru and his Shitennou to all be happy. And I really hope that doesn't turn out to be too much to ask...

I haven't seen the original series either, but I was pleasantly surprised with the live action. The actors/actresses give their characters so much life that it's really easy to get into it.

And I was wishing for a happy ending from the start. I believe there's reason to hope. =D
