Spoilers under cuts

Damn. I didn't catch this the first time around, but when Ryuuki says Shuurei would hate him if he became an assasin... could that be foreshadowing for when Shouka's identity begins to be revealed?

Little Ryuuki and Seian in the garden is so sweet it's painful. I love the brothers - I want more brother cuddling!

Speaking of cuddles, this series is very good to my simply being held kink. Kouyuu and Shuuei, adn the Kouyu just leans against him and Shuuei rests one hand on his shoulder... *flails* Just says so much more than even their words, when Kouyu's usually leaping away from Shuuei's invasions of his personal space, that when it's really important they can just be together...

And then we switch to Ryuuki waiting alone in the hallway to find out whether the two most important people in his life were going to live. When he slipped and called Seiran Seien I whimpered a bit.

And then the scene with Sa and Shou on the hill over looking Saiunkoku... And Shou killed him so gently, as the sun rose. There was so much weight to that scene, and their words to each other, so much history and past. Their relationship, thier friendship and hatred and love was such a huge thing, such a weighty thing that I could almost feel it straining against the edges of this story. They were the stuff of legends but their legend's done; it's the young people's lengend now, Ryuuki and all the rest, and their final betrayal and confessions and tender death has become only part of that story, Shou forcing it to serve Ryuuki's tale. And yet even so, everything left unsaid, the story that we'll never be told because it's not the story we're watching now... there's too much of it to simply be the plot device it was made to be. It all overflows. Two men embrace on a hillside in the soft light of dawn, one old yet young and one young yet old, and I find myself crying because I'll never know everthing they were and did and were to each other. But even if they could, I don't think they'd want to tell me.

This ep really felt like set up for the rest of this story arc, but even so there were lots of moments that I really loved in it. Ryuuren causing trouble even when he's not there - Shuurei's expression as she looked sidelong at his empty place in the ceremony was priceless - and her flashback recounting of his antics during the exam period! And Ryuuki dressed as a guard! He is such a dork, really. ^.^ And now I'm really looking forward to the next episode - Kouyu angts!
