I had intended to make a post when I felt Fresher's Week had finished - which should have been Saturday night, when the drop in session of LUMAS, our anime society, drew to a close. I have since come to the realisation that it's never really over and have spent the last hour going through the hard copy of our new membership list from Fresher's Fair, comparing it to the list on the Student Union website, and noting down the people who are missing so tomorrow I can go wave it at people in a threatening manner.

My evil plans to introduce a few shounen-ai sessions are continuing a-pace. Met [livejournal.com profile] hoggege who almost immediately asked if she could borrow a disc which, along with the xxxHolic movie we had just watched, also contained Sensitive Pornograph. This is promising indeed. *rubs hands together and cackles evilly*

I have joined the archery club! Whoosh - thunk, whoosh - thunk, whoosh... clatter as the arrow miss the target entirely, hits the wall behind it, and becomes bent out of shape. XD I believe I will be going back!

In anime news which is actually about anime rather than organising it so a large(ish) group of people can watch anime...

Death Note! OMG it is unbelievably good. Really. Unbelievably. I think this is the first time I have felt unqualified happiness over an anime adaption of a manga I follow. The animation is beautiful, the voice actors perfect (once you get over the brain breaking Tamaki aspect.) And the choral chants have me drooling because to me there's nothing more spine chillingly creepy than that - and I so love the way their piling on the christian imagery. There's a pastiche of Michealangelo's painting of God breathing life into Adam in the opening sequence, in which Ryuk reaches down to Raito with an apple... Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting I don't know it it's a manga image they've co-opted or not, but I definitely approve! And I loved the montage sequence towards the end, where Raito writes down name after name and person after person dies... *shivers delightedly* I really hope the rest of the series lives up to this beginning!

I forced [livejournal.com profile] lycoris to watch it last night, after a day watching anime and Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, just before she had to walk home in the dark. I think she still likes me, though. ^.^

And something unrelated:

I am a student. In opposition to all stereotypes, I cook. Nothing fancy or particularly impressive - give me a whole chicken to roast and I will stare at you blankly. However, I do like to mess around in the kitchen and experiment a bit. It occurred to me that it might be a good idea to start noting down the recipes I use so I won't forget them, and thought I'd put them on here as inspiration to anyone fancying something fairly quick and easy.

Chicken sort-of stir-fry. An old stand by. Three chicken mini fillets, a chopped onion, a chopped garlic clove. All tossed in some olive oil until the chicken is sealed and the onion and garlic is softening. Pour in some boiling water and add to that: white wine, chicken stock cube, black pepper, salt, and a pinch of mixed herbs. Cover and simmer for twenty minutes. Just before eating, take the lid off and steam away the excess water until the sauce thickens. Serve.

Tonight's experiment:

Fried rice. Boil the rice until cooked and drain. Beat an egg with a little salt and pour in to pan. Wait until it begins to set then break apart and add the rice. Mix it up thoroughly and fry for about three minutes.

I then added some previously frozen peas and declared it tasty.

And it's testament to how really really good he is that half the time I forget that fact. And then my brain breaks a little more when I remember.
