Oct. 11th, 2006 08:39 pmThere is something special about being woken up by a thunderstorm and then having to drag yourself out of bed, and then through the the rain, and the thunder, and the lightning, and the rain, to get to a nine o'clock lecture on the other side of campus. Wading through huge puddles along the way and having to make a detour to avoid the small lake of suspiciosly murky water where a drain had overflowed. And then arriving at the semianar looking like a drowned rat.
One seminar, one lecture today both on Women's Writer's, both just introductory stuff. But interesting. We talked about the history of women's writing, how they had occupied and transformed genres, making themselves comfortable in them, and in some cases superceding the men who had been there before them and making the genre their own, particularly in the case of autobiography and romance. And what is fanfiction but a women's genre, where men are very much the minority? And what is it but transformative? I'm hoping I'll get to prod at this idea later in the term when we study The Wide Sargasso Sea.
Bought myself a shiny new notebook to make notes in for my three main courses. It has dividers! *cuddles the lovely new notebook happily*
First official meeting of the Manga and Anime Society tonight - which meant there was a lot of talky stuff to start with. Especially as we're trying out new things this year. I made a power point to assist - and went a bit power point power mad. Just a bit. There's just something about holding a clicker in my hand that goes to my head!
Oh, and I would very much like to throttle El Presidente for choosing two anime that were completly inappropriate for the first meeting (one of which was a sequel to another series we haven't shown), that led to people sneaking out half way though, and then admitting that he hadn't. Even. Watched them. *grrrrrrrrrrr*
We are showing the first three episodes of Gundam Wing and the first mystery of Ayatsuri Sakon next week. ♥

Enjoy the books. :)

Date: 2006-10-11 11:45 pm (UTC)At least your class started at nine. Mine started at eight, and we just finished our midterm. Only five more to go! *dies*
On the other hand, I love this:

So true. It's hard to find a lot of male fanfic writers, but all of the ones I've read so far are superb. XD
