Meme: ten secret fandom shames.

10. I loath canon!Draco, though I’ll read the fanon version. Same with Snape.

9. I read the FMA manga out of a feeling of obligation. I much prefer the anime. (Although I love Ling)

8. Ryoma is one of my top three favourite characters in Prince of Tennis. I like the wonderbrat.

7. I’ve never seen or read Naruto and I have no particular desire to do so.

6. I’ve recently been devouring Initial D. And liking it. Even though every single female character makes me twitch

5. my sekrit ambition is to write the first fanfic in a fandom.

4. The first fanfiction I followed religiously was a Mary Sue. In my defence, I was not aware of this at the time. It was a multi-fandom crossover and I thought she was a character from another series. Even tried to track the series down…

3. I was annoyed by the mass OMG Noes!!1 in the Death Note Fandom after 58, but I have yet to start reading the second half – but if I hear L’s back you won’t see me for the dust trails.

2. I like Hikaru no Go's ending

1. I have a half written Gundam Wing fanfiction sitting on my computer, despite the fact that I’ve only ever seen Endless Waltz. (What? It’s more than some of the writers out there have seen)

About 3, I don't know why were they so surprised. L could drop dead by any minute since the beginning of the series, there was always the possibility. They just forgot after the lost of memory + handcuffs thing and the mafia guys using the other Death Note.

Granted, I didn't want L to die and had my couple of days of denial, but going balistic about his death is silly.

All true, and that was a large part of the tension and what made the story so interesting. The charcters and that dynamic between them... I'll probably get around to reading the second half eventually but its not a priority anymore.

I tried to give it a chance, but it's not the same. I don't know, the new characters are interesting but I miss L. He was my favorite character and it's not the same without him. It happened with me in HikaGo with Sai. After he moved on, the story bored me, but it's just because I loved Sai's dorkiness and egoism.

I still read and enjoyed Hikago after Sai moved on, but I think that was mostly because there were still other intersting characters and character dynamics going on, still plot lines continuing. Hikaru/Akira rivalry for one. With Death Note, Raito and L WERE the main characters - all the rest were supporting them. Remove one of those characters and with him the whole dynamic - and everything goes into a slump. Also, with L's death THE main plotline ended, and it's easy to accept it as the end of the whole story,

I have to agree with you. The way JKR writes Draco and Snape makes them very easy to hate. I prefer the fanon version becuase it's much more interesting.

I was depressed by L's death since he was my favorite character and now that he's gone there isn't much of a plot. Still, it's not the end of the world and the fandom should just accept it and move on. The battle between Raito and L was the main attraction of DN and DN should have just ended at 58. The new characters just seem to be substitutes for L. There's also no way L could realistically come back after FOUR years, though L faking his own death makes for some excellent AUs.

10. Fanon creates lovely, complex, morally ambigious characters which are a joy to read, but they aren't canon. Although sometimes it's refreshing to read an unapologetic canon characterisation of Snape where he is an unapologetic evil bastard despite the fact that he's a spy. Have you read E.M Snape's In Blood Only? It's a severitus challenge that doesn't flinch away from any of the issues, unlike most of the others. Snape's a bastard but not inhuman, and surprisingly complex. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2027554/1/ if you're intersted!

All true about DN. I just don't have as much interst in it now. I'll wait until the second half's a few more chapters in and the storyline better established and give it another go.

though L faking his own death makes for some excellent AUs.

Hee! Oh yes. Have you read the one with ghost L?

Thanks for the link, I haven't read Harry Potter fic in ages but I'll be sure to check it out. Though I'm usually not interested in the Snape as Harry's father premise, since you recced it, I'll at least try to it.

Which ghost L fic are you referring to? I've read several excellent fics that dealt with the concept, but if it's a different one, I'd love to read it.

I rarely read Harry Potter fic now either - just keep an eye on my favourite stories for chapter updates, and a few rec sites I trust.

Found the fic! Isachi's Dead Boy's. Part One: http://www.livejournal.com/users/isachi/65379.html
Part Two: http://www.livejournal.com/users/isachi/65754.html

You might have already read it.

Hmmm... could you recommend any of those other ghost L fics by any chance?

Yes, I've already read Isachi's Dead Boys. One of the most brilliant explanations for how L could have faked his death. I really enjoyed the fic, especially due to the characterization of L.

Some ghost L fic that I've enjoyed are:

After Death by Keraha http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2399869/1/

a little older, a little wiser, a lot sadder by whale meat is in my opinion a figurative ghost L fic
http://www.livejournal.com/community/death_note/385068.html

There are some other fics that I've read that I can't remember the titles of, but I'll keep searching.

Here's another one.

Five Days That Didn't Happen by queasy

I'm not sure if you've already read these, but if you haven't I hope you enjoy.
