He's mostly over that by now, but he still has to be very sure where each of his meals are coming from, even if in the end he doesn't actually eat it because he got involved in some fascinating bit of paperwork.
He actually finds himself seeking out Shuuei's company somtimes (though his subconcious is very carefull to keep this from his conscious mind otherwise he'd stop doing it because somtimes they can just sit quietly together or walk together without saying anything - but then Shuuei will make a comment and he'll have to snarl back - more than half in disappointment as well as anger. Shuuei just doesn't get being quiet.
When he was little he stole a fan and tried to copy Reishin-sama's movements but he couldn't get it to snap - and then he got it tangled in his hair and it had to be cut out.

Date: 2007-05-22 01:29 pm (UTC)Ryuuki hid Bakuya for years, finding a different place for it every week, terrified that someone would remember it and demand it from him.
His absolute best dream is to be able to sleep on a big bed, with Shuurei on one side of him and Seiran on the other, with their arms wrapped around him so tightly he can feel their heartbeats. He knows it's never going to happen like that so he chases after the bits he thinks he can maybe get in reality, but that's what he really wants.
He's actually beginning to enjoy being Emperor for its own sake, just a little bit. At first it was all about doing things for other people (for Shuurei) but now when he can view the real, practical consequences of the policies he initiated and he pushed through he gets this warm, pleased glow of satisfaction somewhere in his chest. The only thing that would make it better is someone to share it with.

And Ryuuki together with the two people he loves most in the whole world is absolutely to die for. The cute levels have made a hole in the roof. It's unreal.
Ryuuki as Emperor is also for the win, because really he's damn good at it. Alas praise to a king is nearly indistinguishable from poisonous flattery . . . which is part of why that scene in which Yuushun gives Ryuuki his full support and Ryuuki practically cries is so touching.
I also wonder if Ryuuki is so emotional at that point because Yuushun doesn't have any competing loyalties and maybe Ryuuki's already been worrying about Kouyuu and Shuuei . . .

Date: 2007-05-22 02:42 pm (UTC)Sometimes when he acts at a fair he'll be invited to take part in a larger, more official show but he'll always politely refuse and go and find some out of the way corner by himself. Fair's are not about precision and formality which is what he associates with acting in groups, but the chance to be an intenirant street performer, not the grandson of a national treasure. A blend between performance and casual everyday.
When he's travelling the only thing that will make him stop, other than a good murder, is someone telling a story. No matter who or what it is about he'll stop and listen; sometimes, later, parts of those stories slip into his and Ukon's performances.
When he was little Karouko and her friends used to use him as their own personal dress-up doll during their sleepovers. There are still photos stashed in various high security storage spaces about the city, to be brought out at any family gathering.

Date: 2007-05-22 03:09 pm (UTC)Whenever Q class crack a case he can't help but think to himself, as they watch the murderer be led away, I could have done it better. As time goes on, this makes him feel increasingly sick, but he can't stop thinking it.
Kyu is absolutly the best thing that has ever come into Ryu's life and sometimes he has to glance over at him, or touch his shoulder briefly, just to reassure himself that Kyu is still there. Nothing terrifies him more than the thought of loosing Kyu and though he knows that th way he's going about trying to achieve that is likely going to be the way he loses Kyu in the end (keeping secrets from him) he can't stop.
Everything about his life before coming to Japan was a series of training and tests. It took a long time before he stopped watching Dan-sensei warily for the hook at the end of a lesson or the blow at the end of praise.

One of his very favourite things is to publish a paper on a truly genius development on magical theory and then to sit back contentedly and watch the academic community explode. Some of the worst names he has ever been called come from fusty old professors who otherwise speak so quietly they give their students earstrain.

Date: 2007-05-23 10:45 pm (UTC)He 'took care' of at least one of his brothers towards the end of the civil war, when it looked like he might be winning and putting Ryuuki in danger.
Whenever he's in Ryuuki's presence he has to insist on the exact degree of formality, distance and respect due the Emperor from a guardsman; it would be far to easy to slip back into treating Ryuuki as a little brother otherwise, which would be good for neither of them. Still, it hurts, only being able to offer the concern due from a guardsman.
He has a list of all the men Ryuuki has slept with. Various unpleasant things have happened to those of them who didn't treat him right.
Most of the capital knows him as that nice retainer of Shouka-sama's. A significant subsection of the young male population knows him as that freaky scary bastard lets just turn and run in the opposite direction.
At one time Seien could play the flute suberbly. Now just the idea of picking one up disturbs him.
He has vague plans to finangle Ensei and Shuuei into a sparring match together, although he can't quite decide who he'd prefer to see trounced. (he knows it's going to be Shuuei though.)

Shuurei is a Township Queen. That is all the rank of her Jewels entitles her to. The Province Queen is just asking for advice in the cartload of letters she sends everyday, not deferring to her at all.
She doesn't think she's that good a Black Widow really, certainly not compared to Kochou. And she can't really see the point of Weaving Webs to bring things to her, it seems much more practical to go and get it herself, although webs that bring information have their place. (It will take some time and one man before she'll see her Black Widow Craft as anything more than an occasionally useful tool.)
DJS Sou Taifu
He was the previous Queen's (she really needs a name) Master of the Guard; when he gives his loyalty he gives it completly and he remained by her side all though her descent. Her betrayl has left a sadness in him that lurks deep behind his eyes, although only the very perceptive would notice it.
Whenever there's a slow week he'll catch a Wind to Askavi and party with his Eyrien drinking buddies - an Eyrien style party involving playing chicken with a Jinka hunting party. The most common thing you'll hear said about him in Askavi is 'Mother Night guided his soul to the wrong body at birth; it has the balls but not the wings.'
DJS Ensei
Right, so you know those Runs? Those super powerful, super dangeous ones? Ensei's idea of a fun saturday afternoon. (also make a very good means of getting rid of inconvenient pursuit.)
So, teaching Shousenpuu how to fly seemed like a good idea at the time (says Ensei as he hides behind a convenient mountain.)
He's a Warlord Prince, but its surprising how many people forget or don't notice that when they're shouting a lazy, scruffy and smiling slob out of their place of buisness. It's not at all surprising how many of his enemies have no trouble remembering that at all.
If there'd been a need for him he might have entered a court, but despite it's wide and lawless areas Askavi has a strong system of government in place. Instead he spends his time hanging around said lawless places, making himself a nuisance to the bandits inhabiting them and to the hearth witches who live there who, unlike the bandits, know just how to handle a male like this. He's beginning to feel restless though.
(last bit a few prelimnary thoughts on Ensei story - your thoughts? Not sure what we're doing with the Satsujinkou story line)

Shuurei is GREAT. So right on, and so very her. So much her. I don't know what to say in order to express the extreme awesome. And I take it you're referencing Ryuuki in the last, right? ::ADORATION::
Suuuuure, Shuurei, she's just asking for advice, and you're just giving her advice.
Sou is also so much love. Sou having angst is GODLY. As is Sou hanging out with Eyriens, because he SO TOTALLY WOULD. Finally he would have people who could match his obsessions with fighting! Finally he would have people who shared his sense of what fun is! IT WOULD ROCK HARDCORE.
And Ensei also earns a great deal of love, because it's so . . . very Ensei. Laid back and yet frighteningly proficient, and he would LOVE being Eyrien. You totally pegged him there. And teaching Shousenpuu how to fly?! I bet Seiran was trying to kill him after that, totally. ;-D
I like the last part, I do. Suits Ensei's somewhat wild nature. And although in Saiunkoku he ends up as Governor, well, there's not so much call for it here given the structure of government.
How is Askavi ruled, anyway? ::checks wikipedia:: A High Priestess in Terielle, Andulvar in Kaeleer . . . I guess they would have been in place for quite a while, so there would be no call for Ensei there.
Ensei rocks the whole world, though, definately. JOY.
