Belated Yuletide Letter
Nov. 16th, 2008 07:51 pmDear Yuletide Santa,
Thank you for agreeing to write for me! I hope you're still excited about it after seeing the prompts you've been saddled with. *grin* First of all, I have to say I'm easy - anything along the lines of the characters I've mentioned will be wonderful, but I know how much I cling to my recipient's prompts like a drowning girl at a log! If you, instead, are staring in horror at this very long letter please please know that everything is optional.
I like happy endings, hopeful endings, bitter sweet endings, poignant endings, everything's shit right now but we can see it becoming better in the future endings... basically any ending that's not all doom and gloom for ever and ever.
I like character and I like plot - what I most like is for something to be different at the end of the story to what it was in the beginning.
I'm not too fond of roses and chocolates romance stories but I adore love stories - any kind of love. Family, lovers, friends, that strange love between enemies... Love that makes things different, that makes people want to be different, that can change the world or just one person. Love that won't make everything alright but that will make people want to try to make it as good as it can be. (which makes me sound like an enormous sap *embarrassed.* The word love itself definitely does not need to be referenced! Subtlety is good!)
In terms of squicks; extreme humiliation, extreme uke/seme characterisations or western equivalents, mpreg, and... can't really say rape with Black Jewels in my requests can I? Um, let's say I don't like romanticised rape. If it's dealt with (and if you picked me up because of Black Jewels it probably will be) I'd prefer if it was dealt with with a least an edge of reality.
Anne Bishop - Black Jewels series
Request 1: I would love some Sa Diablo family antics - either wacky or poignant or a blend of both. If you could manage to work in Hallevar finally meeting Saetan that would be a wonderful bonus.
Request 4: *cough* I will admit this request is pure self-indulgence but if you've managed to get me for this fandom you'll have options to choose between. I'd love to see an AU of the series where Saetan manages to get Daemon or Lucivar (or, you know, both, since this is an indulgent fix-it request) back at some point before the series starts. Slow healing, suspicion, cautious family bonding. hurt/comfort bonanza.
Might as well put these two requests together, huh? Since they're practically identical anyway, except for the time frame...
The SaDiablo family is at the heart at what I love about the Black Jewels books. They're all so damaged but they're picking up the pieces of their family and making it better. Anything with them interacting, maybe especially Daemon and Lucivar learning more about Saetan, or vice versa.
And, um, if you do take the AU option? Lucivar and/or Daemon dying before the start of the books and ending up in Hell... well, that could count as happy to me. (Maybe not to Dorothea though...)
Request 2: Jasper Fforde - Nursery Crimes series
You know what can't help put be awesome? Pandora and Prometheus' wedding, or the events surrounding it. Basically I would love to see the Spratt household meets Olympus: in-laws from hell.
Um, I'm afraid this request is quite specific. Feel free to go wild with it though, or depart from it completly- one of the things I love most about the books is the Spratt Family and their completely normal oddity, and I adore Pandora and Prometheus's relationship. Anything involving either or both of those things would leave me ecstatic.
Request 4: L J Smith - The Forbidden Game
What I'd really like is more story about Julian. Back story, side story, future story if he manages to get his name carved again. I'm very much open. Something that draws on the stories, themes and atmosphere of Norse mythology would be fabulous.
This was one of my favourite series when I was younger - and reading Twilight reaction posts has made me remember how much I adored Jenny as a character. It's Julian I want more of though - there was so much of his character, and his world, that were left unexplored by the books. Although if you want to bring Jenny in - hey, bonus! *grin*
Thank you once again!
